Our History
The Jerusalem Mar Thoma Church, Safdarjung Enclave, New Delhi, as it stands today has been the result of tireless efforts of many senior members who have worked tirelessly in the mid 70's and 80's to raise funds and build a church in these parts of the city. Today, the Jerusalem Mar Thoma church is part of a vibrant and growing community of believers in Delhi and NCR under the Delhi Diocese of the Mar Thoma Church.
Jerusalem Mar Thoma Church is part of the Malankara Mar Thoma Syrian Church (Malankara Mar Thoma Suriyani Sabha as it is called in native Malayalam). It is one of the oldest groups of praticising Christians in the world. Believed to be followers of one of the original disciples of Jesus Christ - St. Thomas (also called Didimus or Thomas, the doubter). It is widely believed that the Apostle St. Thomas came to Muziris on the south west coast of India in AD 52 and laid the foundations of Christianity in this part of the world.
